This squad is included in the main boxed starter set. It includes Asajj Ventress, Kalani Super Tactical Droid, and B1 Battle Droids
She provides the usual 3 Force and 8 full squad points.
She's a highly mobile board control unit. She has no ranged attacks at all, and her best defenses are only useable in melee combat.
Force push is extremely powerful, not only for sending enemy units out of range of objective points (which is very valueable already) but she can also break up the distances between enemy units in order to disrupt their synergies.
Riposte makes her slightly dangerous to attack in melee which is helpful. Slip away is perhaps her most difficult to use ability, since it requires a dathomriian or seperatist unit to engage in melee with a unit that she is already engaged with, but it does provide another good out of turn movement and a free hunker token. She is best used from the periphery, grabbing undefended points, and darting in to benefit from her assassin ability if the opportunity presents itself.
Kalani Super Tactical Droid: 5 point secondary character.
The most expensive unit in the game at the time of this writing, but this droid provides ALOT for its cost. First off, Roger, Roger is fantastic. right from the first activation of the game, if you are deployed correctly, a large portion of your entire force will get a free out of turn dash. Target concentrate all firepower is equally widely useful, since every battledroid in your force, no matter where they are on the table, when they make an attack, as long as they are within rage 4 of another battle droid, gain +1 die to any attack. Also it can give allied battle droids additional out of turn attacks, or methods to remove condition tokens.
Not to mention in addition to all this, Kalani has an excellent shooting attack.
B1 battle Droids: 3 point Support Unit
This is something of a trap unit. at first glance, they get alot of dice in a shooting attack, but they simply dont do alot of damage. Their strength does not lie in combat. They're mostly there to trigger battle droid abilities, and hold objectives (preferably as far from the fighting as possible) They are actually surprisingly mobile, which can help. They do have a sort of weak version of the clone coordinated fire, which triggers when other battle droids make attacks, but BOTH characters in this unit need to be within range 4 of the target in order to give out the condition, they do however get to choose between bleed(strain) and the broken defenses exclamation point.
What team does this best ally with? Two straight out of the box, Dooku and Grevious. They both have potent droids that will benefit from alot of the synergies. Mother Talzin does have a bunch of dathomirians, to support Asajj, but her one limited use synergy skill is not nearly as good as all the battle droid skills. Who best to take the place of the primary in this force? Grevious is the most likely choice, he's much more able to stand up to being in the think of fighting than Asajj is, AND he brings additional battle droid synergy skills. This is actually one of the few cases where I think an alternative unit is better than the original unit in the set.
