Legendary Abraham Lincoln's Manifest Destiny theme posse:
Strangely, In addition to Legendary Lincoln himself, there only exist 5 Union Bosses... which at first makes no sense, as you need 6 slots... until you remember that Robert Pinkerton is an underboss. EDIT: And NOW Also Teddy Roosevelt also, so now you actually have to choose someone to leave at home! (Actually no you dont, because tesla doesn't need to be in the posse, as he gains absolutely nothing for doing so. So you can take all 4 other bosses, and both underbosses, then take tesla as a separate posse)
That being said, this posse is broken overpowered.
every boss except Nikolai Tesla gains a HUGE boost to their survivability with tough being added on to their mettle, plus rerollable grit without spending fortune chips.
First off Legendary Abe himself. he's a huge improvement over his non legendary self, despite being 20 points more expensive. he does lose his stun melee asp, but picks up smoke grenades, ditches undercover and picks up quick strike (and hardy but the posse bonus will do that for him as well) more limit, more fight, more fortune. He's a murderbot in melee, sadly his flamethrower doesn't have engulf (maybe it's supposed to be a shotgun?) he still brings tactical brillance and counter intelligence for some shenanigans
Breaking down each of the bosses that Lincoln brings with him....
Next is Willa Shaw, either on foot or mounted. Again, mounted is generally better for her, since she wont be using forward echelon in this posse, so giving her the mobility and the gatlings makes her much more useful. Plus it has been confirmed that even mounted Willa keeps Quick and the dead (and with a quick of 8, she only fails on 1's...) Dont forget how useful Gambler can be as well. Although the on foot version is considerably cheaper, she loses ALOT for those points. Her pistols are still not bad, but she loses the gatlings, loses ALOT of mobility, and even a point of grit. She does swap out moving target for target priority, loses bulky, and shriks her base size considerably. Just depends on how many points you have to spend, but the mounted version is definitely worth the upgrade if you can afford it.
General Odysseus Grant. Another combat monster, both melee and shooting are absolutely deadly. He also brings inspiration to the field (as if this posse needs MORE rerolls...) and shrewd strategist. Shoulder to Shoulder is wasted as nobody else in the posse has it. (assuming Willa is on her bike)
Nikolai Tesla. As mentioned above. He wont actually benefit from the posse bonus, but he's a killing machine (literally) already, so he's still worth putting in if you can afford him. sit and shoot and watch things get cleared off the board.
Armstrong Custer. This is a tough choice between Mounted and on foot. Foot version has form up on me, which is almost useless, except that he still gets to trailfinder even if there's nobody to take with him. For the ladies and boys could be useful, but with only 5 or 6 models in the entire posse, it may be hard to keep them together. he does also bring more inspiration and gambler and a BOATLOAD of fortune. you pay quite a few more points for the mounted version, and honestly there's more downsides than up in his case. his plasma six shooters lose a RoA (but you do get the gatling in exchange) you swap quick and the dead for moving target (generally less useful) and dont forget you become much more vulnerable to disrupt weapons as you become machine. I'd say foot version is slightly better, but if you NEED speed and longer reach guns, mounted will do it.
Albert Campbell. his repair is wasted, as everything in the posse already rerolls, override and jury-rig automata are of dubious use in the best of cases, and he has less fortune. he does at least bring inspirational, and as a trapper can give you an extra booby trap, and his wide variety of weapons aren't bad. he is at least the cheapest boss in the list (only slightly beating out Willa for that honor). Edit: Now that there is a choice of 7 different characters, this is probably the weakest link.
Robert Pinkerton (Underboss): This guy is a sniper. deadeyed and killshot on an 18" -4 pierce weapon is amazing. keep him near civilians for an automatic hit regardless of terrain/range (lethal on the crit helps when shooting non-human targets, as kill shot doesn't work on them)
EDIT: Theodore Roosevelt: A speedy melee unit. He doesn't quite have the grit as some of the others, but with both mettle and tough from the posse bonus, he'll still be hard to kill. He has moving target to help some, but it will likely be of limited use, since he will probably be engaged in melee most of the time. He comes with trailfinder, and can both move AND charge 10". the Brutal Tangle Refined-Fatal melee (-2 pierce) attack is pretty incredible as well. Surefoot is basically wasted though because he's bulky and can't climb, and doesn't have Quick and the Dead. Still it does let him move quickly through area terrain. He's one of the better tackler-style units in the game.
How would I build this list now? Abe, Willa Shaw (Mounted), Grant, Tesla, Custer (on foot), Pinkerton (Underboss), and Roosevelt (Underboss) are the best choices, sadly that comes in at 1,290 points so you can't use it for gunslinger tournaments. but in 1500 point tournies, it's got room to spare to add some civilians, angry mobs, and possibly a trap or two. Trying to get down under 1200. If you REALLY want the new Theodore Roosevelt in the posse, you can leave biker Willa Shaw at home, dropping you to 1,110 points and Six characters. add a squad of 3 civilians, and probably two traps to get back up to 1200 (a 4 strong angry mob (instead of the traps) just isn't large enough to be effective as anything more than a quick distraction, but your mileage may vary) Although if you dont bring Willa, you lose her highly mobile high rate of fire shooting which means you will have a bit more difficulty dealing with swarm lists, and Custer has nobody to use For the Ladies with anymore. Honestly, the character that I would leave out is Robert Pinkerton. Even though he's cheap and Kill shot with -4 is very good. you already have plenty of -4 shooting from Tesla and Grant and Abe. So for 1,150 you get Abe, Biker Willa, Grant, Tesla, Custer, and Roosevelt. The civilian unit becomes less useful without pinkerton, so maybe just two traps. or a 5 man angry mob if you're feeling squirrly.
At 1500 points games, you can open it up and bring everyone... at that points level, you MAY need to be concerned about overly large hands units. however, they're typically slow and Willa should be able to whittle them down from a safe distance. Tesla can even put some shots downrange on them. You get Custer with a good gambler draw can also deliver ALOT of shots. once they are down to a reasonable size you can again safely ignore them with your high grits combined with both mettle and tough. At 1500, you can even bring some hands of your own if you want...
Old analysis:
If you take every boss character, AND put them all on mounts (custer, and willa) you still only spend 1145 points (EDIT: this was not counting underbosses at the time). you can buy 6 strategic assets because you have 6 bosses (well 7 with the extra trap from Campbell), but only abe and pinkerton get to use the civilians so it would be hard to fill up to 1500 points. at 1200 you could take a civilian unit and a booby trap, or two traps to fill it in. Honestly though, I'd save the 40 points and bring custer on foot, and bring THREE booby traps and one 3-man group of civilians. coming in at 1195 points. the only weapons you fear are those with both stun and disorder (like Furio's swords, or the doctors drug guns) you should ANNIHILATE people with this list, and honestly it should be banned from tournaments. people will almost never get to use any glory cards on you, as you have only bosses, your characters will be nearly unkillable without some astronomically bad dice rolling, and most of your weapons will cut through even the toughest units in the game. Grant and abe close in for the close range kills, tesla sits back dumping fire, and the other three roam the mid field as needed, capturing objectives and supporting each other. While you will be nearly unkillable, you will be heavily outnumbered, in most matches, meaning you MAY have difficulty capturing objectives. this list is punishingly powerful though, so after a turn or two, just make sure you do some killing, then focus on victory points, you should still be able to hold enough objectives in games to stay ahead, especially considering the adventure cards should also be in your favor. A few really bad rolls though, and that's all she wrote (the math against this is astronomically bad, but it's been known to happen)
